To celebrate the 15th anniversary of the registration of the cultural and tourist site of Ambohimanga Rova on the UNESCO World Heritage List on the basis of cultural criteria, The Malagasy Ministry of Culture provides several festivities, of 10 the 18 December 2016.
On the commemoration program, among others are a cultural hike and a show of “Gasy song”. Official festivities will take place 16 December, date of the proclamation of Rova Ambohimanta as world heritage of humanity.
A visit to this highly symbolic place makes us immerse in the history of the Merina kingdom. Located at the top of the Royal Hill of Ambohimanga, à 15 km from Antananarivo, The rova d'Ambohimanga, associated with a strong sense of national identity, is a fortified enclosure that contains the box where King Andrianampoinimerina of 1788 à 1810, Two wooden pavilions with floor where the Ranavalona I and II queens came to stay, an oxen park and the pools where the queens were bathed.
The site has kept over time, Its sacred character and remains until today a place of worship and pilgrimage for many Malagasy. Small anecdote on this unique Malagasy cultural site to appear on the UNESCO World Heritage List, The surrounding wall was covered with 16 Millions of egg whites, that we used at the time as lime.
