As any sailor who respects, they are very superstitious, the west coast of Madagascar as the whole country is full of "Fady" (taboos) that should certainly not be infringed. This means that at some places it is strictly forbidden to do his business, or dress in red on board during the rainy season, it attracts lightning, or navigate to some places on board with peanuts, eggs, ginger, and sometimes even poultry. Pork is proscribed, not by religion, but a ( Fady) that their ancestors brought in their beliefs.
During our first cruise, the crew sometimes forgot to warn us Laetitia and myself in advance of a particular Fady. Once we had to distribute 5 kg of delicious peanuts coated in caramelised sugar that were to decorate several cruises from coffee breaks to the delight of children of a village in Cap St André. Or, when we have to choose between eating liver attack 40 eggs suddenly or miss an excellent anchorage for the night in a lovely sheltered bay and continue our navigation.
